Funeral

End of Life Celebration

Memorial

Death is not something we should fear…
but it is hardest on those left behind.

The purpose of a funeral, end of life celebration or memorial is to assist a transition in life, in this case the journey of grief.  It provides an opportunity to say a final farewell to the person who has passed and to hold a space for those who knew the person to come together for support during a difficult time.

Melisa knows the pain of losing loved ones and so feels fortunate to be entrusted with such an important responsibility.  Having worked with palliative care patients she understands that everyone deals with grief in their own way, no judgement passed.  She will guide and support you through each step of the process with empathy and attention to detail.  Melisa’s desire to share the story of the person who has passed with those they love in a meaningful manner will help you feel at ease.

There are few limitations on how you choose to acknowledge the person’s passing.  Whether it be a traditional or modern, sombre or celebratory occasion, with immediate family only or everyone included.  It is important to reflect, laugh, cry, remember and share experiences.  Melisa will work with you to create an authentic ceremony based on the person who has passed and your needs and desires.

She is a member of the Funeral Celebrants Association Australia.

The Process

  • Melisa appreciates this is a difficult time. An initial brief discussion regarding the date, time, venue/s and attendees takes place.

  • If you wish to proceed with Melisa’s services, sign the service agreement and pay the ceremony fee.

With the booking finalised, you and Melisa can concentrate on the final farewell. She will ask for contact details of all those involved in the ceremony e.g. funeral director, family members, friends, team mates, work colleagues etc.

  • Melisa will arrange a zoom or she and her assistant can attend your home (or another location if you prefer) at a convenient time.

She will ask what the person who has passed wishes were, if instructions weren’t left, your requirements for the ceremony such as:

    • Where will it be held – in a chapel, cemetery, community hall, sporting club, beach, surf club, private property, park or other location of your choosing?

    • What will be included – tributes, eulogies, music, art, rituals, memories, video, photos, reading?

    • How will you inform everyone of the event?

Melisa will want to hear the stories from family, friends, team mates, colleagues or anyone else you think is appropriate to obtain those precious memories.

Melisa understands that this may be daunting and emotional at times. It is okay to take a short break over a cuppa.

Afterwards, Melisa sculpts a ceremony that reflects the life of your loved one and provides you with a copy to confirm it encapsulates everything you imagined.

  • Melisa arrives at the venue 30 minutes early to meet with the funeral director. Melisa will check in with you and guide everyone through the ceremony easing the burden.

  • Melisa will be in touch to check in with you, hear your thoughts about the ceremony and provide further resources should you need additional support.
